Like any other burnout or breakdown, Fitness Burnout is real and can affect you emotionally, mentally & physically.
Fitness Burnout is:
when you continually feel run down.
nothing seems to make that fatigue go away.
when you lose interest to the point that workouts slip down from the top of your priorities list.
The two common factors in FITNESS BURNOUT are OVERTRAINING & UNDER RECOVERY. Sometimes overtraining and under recovery go unnoticed due to the initial excitement, eagerness, & zeal we have towards our fitness efforts. But resting & recovery are just as important as the workout & just like your nutrition efforts they shouldn’t be overlooked.

Overtraining is “Overtraining occurs when a person exceeds their body's ability to recover from strenuous exercise. Overtraining can be described as a point where a person may have a decrease in performance and plateau” Breakingmuscle.com
First, I’d like to note that it is extremely difficult for the average person to create this type of overtraining. But if one does continue on long bouts of overtraining, you’ll eventually suffer from Overtraining Syndrome, a response to excessive exercise without adequate rest, resulting in perturbations (imbalance) of multiple body systems and weakness in muscles, joints & ligaments.
Under Recovery isn’t just about the rest in between workouts, stretching and foam rolling your muscles, Under Recovery is mostly related to poor lifestyle and nutrition choices, which compete & combat against the effects & benefits of your training program.
Not Sure if you’re suffering from either, ask yourself these questions:
Am I training too much and/or too hard?
Have I been feeling unusually exhausted or sore lately?
Has there been a significant decrease in my workout performance lately?
Do I feel energized or drained out after my work out?
Do I have persistent muscle soreness or muscular or joint pain?
Am I having trouble sleeping? Or experiencing loss of appetite?
If you answered yes to more than 4 of these, you may be suffering from one or both and you should focus on beating burnout by doing the above!
